The day nursery is set in an old Edwardian building which
has been extended to form purpose designed accommodation for
children aged 0-3 years. There are many large rooms, a lovely
garden and a playground. A large indoor play area is also
available which is equipped with stimulating apparatus. This
allows the children to enjoy play whatever the weather.
Within the nursery there are four self contained units
- Two baby units: 0-10 months and 11-17 months.
- Toddler unit: 18-24 months.
- Infants: 2-3 years.
The age span of each group is approximate as we like to take
into account the developmental needs of each child and parental
wishes. Each unit is headed by a Senior Nursery Nurse. Working
alongside them are several nursery nurses each of whom have
the responsibility for a small group of children (keyworker
system).
Throughout the day, the children are offered a wide variety
of indoor and outdoor activities. The emphasis is on creating
a homely but stimulating environment for these very young
children. Each unit is fully equipped with toys and equipment
suitable for each particular group. There are often trips
out (if parental permission is given) in the form of local
walks or a visit to the park. Children are treated as individuals
and by working in small groups with organised routine we hope
to provide the opportunity for children to develop at their
own rate.
